The 29-year-old, who is a Michigan State University alumnus, began the effort in Lansing and eventually expanded the program to Detroit, where she grew up. The organization not only encourages students to be standouts on stage, but also in the classroom. Participants are recommended to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
