New life will be breathe into an abandoned Detroit home this fall. Lisa Waud, 37, owner of Pot & Box, a floral design company with locations in Ann Arbor and Hamtramck, is the creator of the Flower House project. This October, Waud and other florists across the U.S. will cover the walls and ceilings of a ruined home with fresh flowers. The concept bloomed after Waud saw images of the 2012 Christian Dior Couture fashion show in Paris where rooms of a mansion were blanketed with fresh flowers.
“I was just smitten, and I knew instantly that I had to do something like that,” says Waud.
A neighboring vacant house was decorated in May as part of a preview event. Waud purchased the homes at auction for $250 a piece. Eventually, both properties will be deconstructed and the materials will be repurposed. The remaining land will be converted into a flower farm for Pot & Box.
