Alexandra Clark, 26, invested her own money to open Bon Bon Bon in Hamtramck, Mich. in July of last year. “Bon Bon Bon” loosely translates from a couple languages to meaning, “good goodies,” Clark says. Her shop crafts two-bite sweets that feature a range of flavors — as her web site puts it: ‘classic to bizarre, familiar to exotic, all-candy to all-chocolate.’ Now, less than a year later, Clark opened a second location — a retail store — inside the Chrysler House building in downtown Detroit. She says the decision to open the shop was due in part to customers’ requests for more business hours in which they could visit. As for future plans, Clark says, “We’re really kind of leaving it up to our customers as to where we go.”
